Minoxodil versus Monat’s Capixyl™

In my research conducted on behalf of a dermatologist office in the area, I have been able to put together a thorough explanation of the differences between Minoxodil and Monat’s Capixyl™. Firstly, because of these findings, I want to say that after I have experienced post partum hair loss (and recovered from, Thanks to Monat!), I am a proud Influencer for Monat and love that this company has luxury products that are NON-toxic and safe for my whole family.

  • How they work: Minoxodil is a antihypertensive vasodilator medication. In non-medical terms, that means it directs blood flow to the scalp to increase circulation potassium channels resulting in expansion of vessels that allows hair to grow. Capixyl is an emollient blend that helps to protect the scalp, strengthen and thicken hair while supporting natural growth, it also has an inhibitor to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is a big contributor to hair falling out. DHT causes hair fall-out because it shortens the growth cycle of the hair and also produces a progressively shorter and finer hair strand.
  • Ingredients: Capixyl is a blend of a peptide, acetyl tetrapeptide-3 (and) extract of red clover – see below for more info about Red Clover Extract. Minoxodil is filled with carcinogens.
    • What about Red Clover Extract? Red Clover extract in the ingredient Capixyl is only a trace amount, and, when applied topically in cosmetic hair care products, will not have any impact on hormones. However, it is rich in isoflavones that have antioxidant properties especially with biochanin A. Biochanin A is great at inhibiting 5-alpha-reductase which is a key part of DHT production, therefore, less DHT, less hair fall-out!
      • Now for the peptide, acetyl tetrapeptide-3. We are back to DHT again. One of the other side effects of this hormone is loss of connective tissue integrity surrounding the hair follicle, plus there is an increase of inflammation and oxidative stress in the scalp. Acetyl tetrapeptide-3 stimulates extracellular matrix proteins reinforcing the structures surrounding hair follicles, this provides the hair with a firmer anchor and reduces damage to it.  Acetyl tetrapeptide-3 boosts type III collagen synthesis, as well as collagen VII, a major constituent of the anchoring fibrils located in the basement membrane ( DEJ) around the hair papilla. Acetyl tetrapeptide-3 is supposed to lengthen the hair shaft (source) and increase follicle length by 35% after only eight days of treatment. – www.Truthinaging.com
      • Testing: All Monat products are Animal Cruelty Free! Minoxodil has been tested on animals. P.s. Did you know in September, 2018, California became the first state to ban testing on animals. Beginning January 2020, it will be illegal to sell products that have been – or include ingredients that have been – tested on animals in California.
  • Side Effects: There have been no side effects discovered from using Capixyl. However, Minoxodil has side effects that include: tiredness, unwanted facial/body hairdizziness, fast/irregular heartbeat, faintingchest pain, swelling of hands/feet, unusual weight gain, difficulty breathing especially when lying down. Minoxidil tablets contain the powerful antihypertensive agent, minoxidil (minoxidil (minoxidil (minoxidil tablets) tablets) tablets) , which may produce serious adverse effects. It can cause pericardial effusion, occasionally progressing to tamponade, and angina pectoris may be exacerbated
  • Results: While I don’t have access to a Minoxodil clinical study, most people using Minoxodil need to use this medication regularly for over 4 months to see benefit. Capixyl’s clinical studies (see image below) were tested over a  period of 4 months showing significant increase in hair growth in under that time frame.
    • The study demonstrates the following results:
      • a clear 46% increase in the growing hair density.
      • Improvement in repair effect improving hair anchoring by 70%.
      • Substantial reduction in DHT hormone, resulting from the action of 5a-reductase on testosterone by 48%.
      • Strong reduction in the non-growing hair density in volunteers
  • Conclusion: Capixyl™ testing has proven better results in hair growth stimulation than Minoxidil. Clinical data shows that it improves hair loss, is a safe alternative to Minoxidil, and provides fast results. It is also without harmful side effects, chemicals, toxins and after-effects that can be found with other major leading hair-regrowth brands.
  • Commitment:  With Minoxodil, when you stop using it you will lose the hair it helped you grow within 30-60 days because you no longer have the blood and circulation stimulation of the medication. In addition, these product lines are filled with carcinogens, known to cause cancer in living tissue. So you need to give a lot of thought to Minoxodil and be committed to using their product before beginning. Because Monat’s Capixyl™ is focused on follicle, scalp health, and DHT blocking, you will keep the hair that you regrow. As a caution, Monat’s products are free from carcinogens and toxic ingredients. Using Monat will remove both environmental and product build-up from your hair and scalp; however, should you choose to begin using products with wax,  you will likely be choking the scalp and hair strand from oxygen – kinda like putting plastic wrap over the top of newly growing grass won’t work so well for those new crops.
    • If you are looking to switch from a product that uses Minoxodil, I recommend that you begin Monat’s Intense Repair Treatment Products to give your scalp the best pH health and follicle health as quickly as possible and let Capixyl™ start to work it’s magic on inhibiting DHT (hair fallout) as well.

If you are in need of thicker and stronger locks, look for Monat’s products that contain Capixyl™ are: Intense Repair Treatment Spray, Intense Repair Shampoo, Intense Repair Conditioner, Black 2+1 Shampoo + Conditioner, Eye Wonder, Renew Shampoo, Replenish Masque, Restore Leave-In Conditioner, Reshape Root Lifter, Revive Shampoo, Revitalize Conditioner, Groom Styling Clay, Smoothing Shampoo, Smoothing Deep Conditioner, Tousled Texturizing Mist, Refinish Control Hairspray, Restyle Instant Sculpting Taffy, Blow Out Cream, Moxie Magnifying Mousse, Thickening Spray and, finally, my most recent favorites Advanced Hydrating Shampoo and Advanced Hydrating Conditioner.
